Prehistoric Rocks in the Spotlight: Half a Billion Years Old

Paleobiologist Martin Smith from the University of Durham says they're actually seaweed. They were thought to be Breyer-Zowens, tiny tentacle sea creatures that lived in skyscraper-like underwater colonies. But now it's been revealed their fossils are squashed flats into two dimensions so you can see soft parts too.
