Mendelson's Cellos - A Recapitulation
Mendelson gives us the feeling that he is sinking beneath the ocean waves as the key continues to descend, until we find ourselves in a dramatic sea minor. After another dramatic outburst, the third theme appears like a dream. In e major, it is as ethereal and mysterious as it ever was, but the brightness is a welcome relief. mendelson will use a long melody in the cellos, in minor, of course, to take us back to the recapitulation.
