The Cold Photons of the Universe

When light was released into the universe a few hundred thousand years after the Big Bang, it was thousands of degrees. But as that light traveled through the universe and space expanded, that expansion stretched all those photons by about a factor of eleven hundred. We're bathed in them right now; there are 411 of these photons in every cubic centimeter of space today.
