The Emergence of Complexity
Scientists have been talking about something that we call emergent phenomena. The complex system of many parts whose overall behavior cannot be predicted on the basis of individual parts. And we have simple examples of emergent phenomena like far flies. There's a certain species that when they gather together in a field on a summer night, at first they're all blinking randomly. But after a few moments, they all start blinking in synchrony.
