Hegel's Idea of Dialectics, Kant's Idea of Dialectics

Hegel's idea of dialect really comes not from plato, where you might think it comes from, but more from kant. And so the last part of the critique of pure reason is called the transcendental dialectic. For him, dialectic is only negative. It only means we we follow reason to these points at which it contradicts itself. But that run into contradictions doesn't tell us that we don't know anything. That's a way of actually knowing something. Hegel thinks that understanding contradiction as an end point of thought is itself an insight.
