The Importance of Perception

Norman Lewis's Cathedral was a comment about marginality, says author. He chose to ignore the cathedral's power like someone meeting a king and treating him as an equal. The reality or otherwise of monuments is a form of distraction in cathedral - facade behind which lies relationship to power so bleak it can be almost ungraspable. To stop experiencing the feeling of injustice would be to make the injustice no longer exist. It seemed to me that Norman Lewis liked the cathedral during the time that he looked at it,. His liking was stronger than the cathedral, was more modern and alive.
