Are They Genuine? Or Forgeries?
In the british library, you can actually hold in your hand genuine charters written on parchment. But do we know? I always wonder this, are they all genuine? Or are some of them forgeries as well? Can we trust them? So quite a lot of them are forgeries. O we have genuine charters. In the fourth century, the roman empire is actually doing ok. It does have, especially in the second half of the fourth Century, a series of problems with internal organization. There is some pressure,. especially in the east and there are constant small scale and larger scale civil wars. And that is quite important for what's going to happen very soon.
