The Importance of the United States in the Nuclear Deal
There's really no chance the United States had no juice. We have no representation diplomatically in Tehran. The other though from a Saudi point of view why it was advantageous for them to bring the Chinese in is that China is a huge buyer of Iranian oil. And so the Iranians are dependent on them to some degree especially now given sanctions and whatnot. It was probably a pretty smart move on their part to find that kind of mediator who the Iranians couldn't easily, not that they won't but couldn't easily turn around and win a lot of things.
