The Gidget story is one of triumph a bubbly tomboy stumbles on a scene full of quirky surfer guys falls in love gets her heart broken and learns to surf it's a classic teen coming of age story with a refreshingly feminist take. It's taken Kathy most of her lifetime to awaken to some of the other dynamics that were at play in Malibu well it wasn't welcoming for me all the time it wasn't right away oh she's so cute you know she can surf no I had to surf I had to prove and I still miss having a boyfriend but everything happens for the best and I'll die being an old maid but it's a grand life.
