I can understand how narrow AIs are pursued by corporations and by governments to achieve task and achieve profits. But why would a corporation pursue artificial general intelligence if profit was their objective? Wouldn't that also run the risk of killing everyone in these other extreme scenarios, he asks. So I will offer what might be a way forward, but it does require taking seriously how deep a thing we're talking about. It's partly an arms race and it's partly a set of these biases that those who are more focused on the opportunity than risk have rush ahead.
