Anastasia and Hypatius in the Balkans

Vitalian's nephew, Hypatius, took control of Moesia and Skidia in 513. Anastasia sent troops out under Cyril to capture the rogue general. He saw Cyril coming a mile off, ambushed his force, and killed him. On hearing the news, Anastasia's dropped his conciliatory stance and had Vitalian named a public enemy. The situation was bleak but not quite as bad as it might sound with Pray-Sentil armies still in Constantinople.
