The Dangers of Toothpicks
In 1984, doctors found that about 8,000 people a year are injured from toothpicks. A 50-year-old woman in Portugal went to the doctor complaining her throat hurt. An autopsy showed green color on the skin around her neck and two puncture wounds in her throat wall. The toothpick interfered with nerves vital in the control of the brain, heart, and lungs leading to cardiovascular collapse.
