Orderic Wasn't Seeing It as Sufficiently Important

Orderic says Swain's ambitions were excited by his dynastic claim to England. In fact, Orderic goes on to say, quote, grown arrogant by repeated successes and seeking to raise his power and glory to a still higher pitch. The author is so clear about what's driving the king that it makes me wonder if these authors had actually read Orderic.
