S I M B, Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation
The next advancement in ventilator technology was the ability to detect patient effort. This led to the development of s i m b, synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation. The machine will give a breath if it detects an effort by either a drop in pressure in the circuit as the patient makes an insertory effort, or by detecting increased flow in the circuit. If the machine does not detect an effort, at the end of the o the machine will give the breath anyway. Newer ventilators may also have a pc v g, a pc or p r v c mode. That's pressure control, volume control and adapted pressure control.
