Haiti's uprising creates widespread panic among, I mean white in slavers right plantation owning slaveholders. They're worried about what it's going to mean economically in terms of the safety and stability of the institution of slavery. And they're even worried on a very specific level about what Haitian independence is going to mean for their own trade relationship with the United States.
