In Japan, it's quite common still for care workers to manually lift residents rather than using a sling or kind of device. This becomes one of the many reasons that robots are proposed as a way to help these workers. So when we look at the proposals for robots themselves, you know, you look at three in particular that were tried in this care home. I want to explain what those robots were and how they are supposed to work.

Paris Marx is joined by James Wright to discuss Japan’s efforts to develop robots to care for its growing elderly population, what the government hoped to achieve with that plan, and why it hasn’t worked out as planned.
