Be wary of starting any PPI in the hospital and only do so if it's needed for a clear indication. Renal failure is one that also has come out in the literature. It's really worth considering checking a creatinine once a year, just to make sure there's no effect on renal function. Again, put them on the lowest effective dose, stop it when no longer needed.
