If the obstruction is proximal then I guess a venting G tube is not helpful. There are sometimes stents that are put in as well and it's definitely a nuanced discussion because there's a whole bunch of complications that can occur with those as well. If the obstruction is distal there might still be benefit for this the venting of venting g-tube. That's where some of those more long-term discussions come into picture unless the patient in front of you is just looking really really sick and you don't think they have very much time to live.
