The fear center of the brain gets triggered and this produces cortisol or stress hormone. Dr Kerry Ressler, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School believes that the brain moves its resources because it's in survival mode. Physical and mental tasks you can normally do without any problem can become way more difficult under pressure. Marcus says pressure makes him perform better but what I think he's really doing is refusing to be overwhelmed by the circumstances.
