The traditional Roman script is basically what we know today as upper case or capital letters. By the 7th century, a variety of regional handwriting styles had emerged throughout Europe. The Franks had developed a unique script, as had the Visigoths down in Spain. And the Irish monks had also developed aunique script. These scripts used modified letter forms.
