bitfinex was founded by raphael nicolas, a frenchman who was working as a helpdet technician. Up until this point, he was a major participant in and defender of the infamous trendon shavers pansey scheme which resulted in him losing a whole bunch of his bit coins. He used the recently leaked source code of a failed bitcoin exchange called becoinica. Beconica was an exchange that was popular because it offered leverage, allowing traders to magnify their gains but it had a variety of bugs and security sues.
