When elizabeth became the queen many, many years ago, the united kingdom was a small, unimportant corner of the vast british empire. We eventually grew out of that position and had to fight two wars with the british Empire. The role of britain in the world is not unfairly represented by the clownish boorish johnson or by the apparently even bigger clown we have now in the new leader. It's a sad story of decline, as it has been for the last two centuries. Having a queen, having all of that ceremony,having all of that pomp, spending all of that money on maintaining the delusion of a court, of a monarchy of kings
