How to Be a Good Head Gardener

I wanted to write a book in the late 70s about head gardeners who were dying breed back then. They had all been trained in a very very old school which had totally disappeared by the second world war and was really they were dying, he says. I remember one head gardener saying to me is I came up for the system  and that's when I started to be a good gardener. We're having to start to think about it rather than just learning how to do it and doing so many things at once we are going to have to acquire knowledge to be flexible and to adapt. He adds: "Just like 76 it could be 1876"
