The Importance of Mach Number in Engineering
At subsonic speeds, because you're below the speed of sound and that speed of sound is telling you what's in front of you, you can adjust. The air can adjust if something is coming at it because it knows it's coming. But now as we push up faster and faster, I'll use the B52 as an example. Here at a high subsonic speed, the engineers figured out how to shake the wing so that the air didn't go supersonic on the wing until you got to about.9 Mach.
