Mussolini was confident in his military intuition, even if he was advocating for actions that were against the wishes of the Italian military leaders. This idea would be solidified in November 1936 when Franco would agree to Italian primacy over the Mediterranean in return from military aid. In the end, some Italian generals were persuaded that this was the correct course of action, while others were simply replaced.
