When emily was about nine, papa's business in town had become successful enough that the family was able to get out from under their odd rental arrangement and move to their own house on north pleasant street. At last, mamma had the charge of her own establishment. One first things the dickinsons did at the new house was to create their garden. Even papa and brother austin were all in. Fruit was their specialty, fruit trees.
