How Design Influences Dissociation on Social Media
Digital technologies, including apps, often purposefully lure users into engaging with certain content irrespective of the user's intention. For example, when we studied YouTube and redesigned that site, we found that users came to it with two different types of intentions. If you come to YouTube with a specific intention or focus, then it's terribly distracting. It is not the right experience that the user wants to have. So the site is designed extremely well to do what it's supposed to do - get you to watch video after video beyond what you had intended to watch.
