The idea for the film was first developed by Rajamouli's father in the late 1990s. Ego was one of the highest grossing Telugu films of that year, earning more than $23 million US dollars. And I think Rajamoulo was very happy with the outcome of this film. In all the interviews that I read, he was very proud of the work that he did. So both versions were released on July 6th in 2012 in approximately 1,100 screens globally.
