The view that parents don't have influence or an impact on their kids was popularized by Judith Rich Harris. Good parents have good kids, and any dimension you could look at, says Paul Waldman. Parents who read a lot to their kids have kids who read aA lot of the variants roughly can be explained genetically. The other 50% doesn't have much to do with shared environment; it does not have to do parental influence.
