How to Find Good Goals for AI Systems

Even if we did know which goals we would like an AI system to have, it seems quite hard to give AI systems goals anyway. One issue is that it is claimed that most goals are in conflict because all goals would benefit from having all of the resources. So I think there's a question here of how many goals are really in conflict in this way. Lots of goals don't really ask for all of theresources in the universe. But it seems like it's easy to want to make them anyway.
