Kuiper had a modern view of institutions in general, you know, so that you can just create something that's very new. A lot of his intuitions about the integrity of individual academic disciplines and why they have to be respected are distinctly modern as well for Kuiper. But at the same time, it's a recovery or it's a corrective of something that has become disordered after the enlightenment. So really what he's trying to do is just give some continuity to a much older Christian institution, which is the university.
