Gunpowder Treason Day
After the foiled plot, an act of Parliament made it law to celebrate Gunpowder Treason Day every 5th of November. Even though that law was repealed in 1859, towns and villages all over England still marked the 5th of Nov each year with fireworks and a bonfire. Why a bonfire? Well, bonfire was part of the Protestant tradition, so people would like bonfires in the street in order to celebrate things.
