The Miner's March to Mingo County

Federal troops were called in to try and end the fight. The miners had armed themselves with all manner of weapons, wearing red bandannas so they could easily identify one another. Women played a part in all this as well. They donned nurses caps with the u.M w insignia because they knew there was a lot of danger and people were going to get hurt. For about ten thousand miners that fought out of the estimated ten thousand who surrendered officially, only 400 guns were turned in.
