How to Find True Gratitude for Your Painful Emotions

In psychiatry, residency training, they're always teaching us to do gratitude journaling. One day I realized that if you could actually find true gratitude for your problems or specifically for your painful, difficult emotions, that was kind of the pathway to zen, so to speak. A good example comes to mind, which is the very painful emotion of loneliness. We often do everything we can to avoid or fix or not feel that because it can be very deeply haunting.
