The Differences Between Science Fiction and Fantasy

David: The imagination that is the engine for science fiction stories is not an unfettered imagination. It's actually through a consideration of science and our scientific realities that it then builds a world to which we could draw a line from the here and now. And one of the really interesting things about that too is that at least according to the science fiction author Ted Chiang who wrote the short story arrival, he says magic evokes wonder and amazement. So fantasy is an anti egalitarian genre by nature, whereas science fiction opens us up to a wide variety of different political and social organizations.
