ADHD - The Six Clusters of Self-Regulation
The ability to exercise these executive functions is not fully developed even in middle childhood. These cognitive functions are among the slowest aspects of the brain to develop and they're not fully matured in most people until late teens early twenties. The current diagnostic criteria for ADHD say that if we're going to make a diagnosis we're supposed to have evidence that at least some of these symptoms have been present in the person since before their age 12.
