Gun deaths in the US are largely clustered in southern states, says Dr. Nick Mark. New York City is actually much safer than Canada in terms of your risk of dying with a gun. Since the 19th century, life expectancy in Western countries has increased pretty dramatically. Someone born in 1900 could expect to live about 47 years; by 2019 that had risen to 79 years.
