Anxiety Is the Reaction Signal to the Loss of an Object
Anxiety isn't the signal of a lack, but of something that has to be conceived of at a duplicated level as the failing of the support that Lacan provides. The paternal figure introduces is the support that only Lacan can provide. What provokes anxiety is everything that lets us glimpse that we are going to be taken back into the lap. Here he's referring to Freud's Beyond the Pleasure Principle and the game that little earnest is playing Fort Dau.
