The Hebrew Source of the Septuagent
Jerome wrote a commentary on ecclesiastes in three 89, and hereis what he explains in the preface. augustine held the prevailing view of the christian church that god had inspired the septuagent for later use by gentile christians. One aristocratic roman christian even accused him of sacrilege, not for any doctrinal error against the christian creeds, but for jerome's translation of a word in the prophets.
