Mullins: Jane is referring to a symposium in the journal, Philosophia Christie. She's bringing up different problems for different theories on hell. On one theory of hell, the damned are sent to hell, but they have the option to leave if they will repent and reform. What Jane is pointing out is that the nature of human freedom seems to imply that the damned might rebel against God forever.
