When the bolsheviks first took power, they had all sorts of extremely libertarian policies. By the late twenties and early thirties, russia had moved back into a embracing virtue in the historic role of a fatherly and masculine virtue. And by the time you get world war too around you have a, you know, that war wasn't fought to free the workers of the world. That was fought as the great patriotic war for mother russia,. which is a pretty nationalist sort of framing.
