Introduction

NASA's double asteroid redirection test, or DART, smashed into a small asteroid called dimorphos. It altered its trajectory around another asteroid called Dittimos in our first ever test of planetary defense. Five new studies detail how this collision altered the path of dimorphos through space. The spacecraft was targeted for the leading sunward side ofdimorphos which it struck at a speed of 14,000 miles per hour.
