Italy and the Little Ice Age
Italy was hit hardest by the little ice age and the general crisis of the seventeenth century. The bubonic plague, which had really diminished and been gotten under control gradually through the 14 and 15 hundreds, it broke out again in the 16Hundreds. And switzerland was largely spared from these wars and plagues, mainly because it's so mountainous and isolated. It wasn't really possible to move giant french or spanish armies into there.
