Roxanne Jones: We can have implicit memories that override our capacity to explicitly experience what we think we're supposed to experience. She says when traumatic events happen, or neglect takes place, it fails to turn on parts of the brain that long to remember my story. "So much of our lives are driven by our inability to bring explicit and implicit memory together in a way which is healing," she says.
