The 30 Silver Coins

In matthew 27, all the chief priests get together, and jesus is being bound up. But then says judas, verse three, a twnty seven, who had betrayed him, saw that jesus was condemned,. He returned the 30 silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. They replied, that's your responsibility. So judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. Can that both be true? Maybe, if you were terrible at hanging, i guess.
