The public nature of public confession takes on a significantly different nuance in the age of social media. In Christian terms, falling under conviction from God means coming to an acknowledgement of God's condemnation of one acts. The disciplinary function is where I think the coercion that can attend practices of testimony leads toward coercion and control.
