The British Military Presence in the New World
The Seven Years' War in America is generally known as the French and Indian War. There were 26 British colonies in the New World in the middle of the 18th century, only half of them rebelled in what we call the American Revolution. In 1740, if you were to say to somebody in 1740, I'm going out to the colonies. I'm very worried about Barbados, Jamaica. And so this whole story over all these episodes with doing the American Revolution is really a story about the French. It's a story about British relations with Europe in one sense. But that's absolutely right.
