The Importance of Relatedness in Life
Self-determination theory is our best guess at a theory that explains human motivation. Being understood and recognized, acknowledged seems to be an essential component of the human experience. And this is something that gets leveraged all the time in video games and social media. So when you look at correcting for more individualistic societies or more communitarian societies, self-determination theory seems to hold true.
