The Lunch Years
I joined the New Statesman in 1996, so the year before the election was at the place where it was before years. We used to have amazing lunches. Thursdays were dominated by a two hour planning meeting and then a lunch that would start at 12 or 12.30. Much gin and much wine and much whiskey was drunk. And ferocious political debates were had, but it was an absolute riot. I find it quite comical that 20 years on you're in the job that I used to have. But let's hope for you yet.
