Is the New Testament a New Covenant?

To be protestant, you have to at least be christian, like that's an essential belief. But i think most people would be very uncomfortable losing the grounding for something like a and just avoiding the old testament differences. Protestants and catholics have the 27 book canon of the new testament, which is normative for the new covenant. I feel like if you had that same lazer focus criticism of the papacy, it would also tear apart what i call protestant authority,. ok?
